Seth Gilliam is an American television and film actor. He stars as “Father Gabriel Stokes” on the hit AMC series The Walking Dead. He’s also known for the series The Wire, Oz, and Teen Wolf. His film credits include Courage Under Fire (1996), Starship Troopers (1997), and Still Alice (2014). Gilliam was born on November 5, 1968, in New York. He graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1990. He went to college with actor Dwight Ewell.
CAREER
Gilliam began his acting career in the early 1990s. He was featured in a 1990 Central Park stage production of ‘Richard III’ alongside Denzel Washington. His stage credits also include Othello, King Lear, Good Bread Alley, and Antony and Cleopatra. Gilliam made his television debut on shows like The Cosby Show, and Law & Order. He had his first lead role in the TV film Assault at West Point (1994). He had a recurring role as “Clayton Hughes” on the HBO drama series Oz (1999-2001). Gilliam’s film debut was Joey Breaker (1993) starring Richard Edson and Cedella Marley. He was cast as “Altameyer” in Courage Under Fire (1996) and as “Sugar Watkins” in Starship Troopers (1997). He appeared opposite Nick Nolte in Jefferson in the historical drama Paris (1995).
Gilliam played police officer “Ellis Carver” in the HBO drama series The Wire (2002-08). He starred as “Dr. Alan Deaton” in the MTV series Teen Wolf (2011-17). He currently stars as “Gabriel Stokes” in the AMC post-apocalyptic horror series The Walking Dead (2014-).
